Hot the heels of Wimbledon, the Reschio Inter-House Tennis Tournament is an eagerly awaited sports event in the Umbria calendar. 2022 was a bumper year with more teams competing than ever. Seven Reschio Houses put up a couple of teams each, so that the battle was between 14 pumped up and determined teams. Two houses were eliminated with undue hast, leaving the field to Barco, Brusceto, Cercoschene, Col del Vento and Giuntarelli. In blistering heat the teams gathered at the Astro-Turf courts, their vocal fans voicing their enthusiasm from the grand stands. Each day the antique silver Pragnell trophy was set up, to remind those dressed in white of the stakes. The rules are a bit Italian, in that you can change one of your players, should one be flying home; actually you can change your team entirely and although mixed doubles is preferred, nothing in the rules suggests this … with hindsight, there are no rules. Indeed any deep competitiveness is frowned upon, as it for the fun of the game that the Tournament takes place, but you try telling that to those cheerleaders sitting on the side lines!

Finally it was down to two teams, Col del Vento vs Barco and the finals were played in searing heat for 2 hours and 45 minutes with fifty spectators (and three dogs) from every Reschio House and Reschio Hotel guests too. It was a decisive win for Col del Vento’s Philip and Caspar, 7-6 / 2-6 / 7-5 and the house name is being engraved on the cup with their names etched on our winners board in the tennis pavilion.

It was a spectacular final and we cannot wait to do it all again – rent a house, so that you too can compete in the Tournament from 14th to 18th August 2023
