We Love Classic Cars
Even in February, it is magical to drive the open road with the top down of a vintage car. All dressed up for winter and an extra layer of sheepskins. The big blue skies seem to encourage you to venture into the furthest views. Our favourite drives include regular stops in picturesque bars for coffee, hill top towns for lunch, visits to tailors for shirts or winter coats, hand woven linens on ancient looms or cordwainers for riding boots before returning to Reschio for an apertivo in our very own Bar Centrale.
The topography of Umbria is a dream to drive: not too hilly, yet not too flat but a driving sweet spot, twisting through ancient woodlands to find the unexpected. What could be more unexpected than the famous Madonna del Parto by Piero della Francesca, an extraordinary fresco in its own museum in Monterchi, a tiny hamlet that was his mother’s hometown.
A particularly beautiful drive that we took in our 1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead (6 cylinder, 3L engine) was to the small medieval village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina sitting enchantingly on the hill beyond a wide valley. It has ancient Etruscan origins but from the 11th century it was a fiefdom of the Bourbon del Monte. This famous family’s history is intertwined with Reschio.
There is always a place in our covered garage for vintage cars and we look forward to giving space to yours.
