We Love our Orto
The flavours, colours and shapes from our kitchen garden this season have filled us all with joy. The sheer beauty and wholesome taste of our produce are ample reward for the hard work invested in Spring when we re-sited and extended the orto to cover 300 square metres. Marta Cipriani, seen here with her trade mark conical hat, provided expert guidance on organic matter to enrich the soil and alongside Donna Nencia and the Bolza children (who took turns in the initial hard digging), they planted unusual and historic varieties of vegetables among flowers, herbs and fruit bushes.
Guests will be able to meander through our completely organic kitchen garden, where Chef Simone is often found tending his raw ingredients. In our first year unusual varieties have been planted and, over the years, a Reschio strain will be selected, developing plants capable of excelling in Reschio’s micro-climate. The seeds will be harvested and sowed the following season. This is an on-going process and will allow the orto to evolve while we seek to achieve the perfect symbiotic balance.
