We Love Our Vermouth
We love developing new things on the estate that tell a story. Our latest is Reschio Vermouth. Rich and aromatic, it is made from ingredients foraged at Reschio, most notably Artemisia absinthium along with other herbs and spices. Vermouth originated in Turin in 1786 and has remained a favourite Italian aperitif for centuries, it is also the vital ingredient in many classic cocktails including the Negroni.
Our in-house graphic team had fun creating the hand drawn label, as the name, Artemisia, is derived from the Greek goddess of the hunt Artemis, who was also goddess of the woods and therefore it felt wholly fitting that she should grace the label, with the protection of a Reschio stag.
Vermouth is an aromatised and fortified wine that, through the maceration process with a number of other botanicals, has a subtly spiced flavour with a hint of bitter on the finish. Indeed some consider that the antioxidants added to the mix have a positive benefit, even boosting the immune system - that is going a tad too far!
It is fantastic that we can continue traditional Italian culture by thoughtfully producing something that has such a history. We especially love foraging for the crucial ingredients in Reschio’s rich wilderness.
