We Love ... The Dovecotes
We love the big reveal and, as Reschio Hotel prepares to open for its third season on 21st March, we tiptoe along our rampart walls to peep into Reschio’s dovecotes. They were essential when the Castello was built to defend its territory, in 1050, from the advancing forces. Pigeons were bred to provide food for the castle dwellers and, as a by-product, their droppings made an excellent crop fertilizer.
Now, lavished with comforts since those ancient days a millennium ago, they are utterly romantic hideaways. With open fireplaces and candles to create the perfect mysterious atmosphere. Four can have dinner in La Colombaia Piccola, while six can have drinks or liqueurs before or after lunch or dinner in La Colombaia Grande in a secluded den within a tower.
While the hotel was closed, we have had fun primping up the cushions, preparing new dishes, planning exploits, practising music and we cannot wait for you to stay this spring and tell us what you think. We love it here at Reschio and know that you feel the same
